I've always been an animal lover, 6 dog's and 3 cat's currently. One day when my dad was visiting me from Texas he told me my 8 year old 1/2 brother is a vegetarian "Why would we eat animals aren't they our friends?" was his reasoning. Yes, I had considered it before and did second hand info from an 8 year old really change me, no. However, it did start me thinking. Recently I have been considering lap-band weight loss surgery and have been to several seminars where they teach you to pay attention, be in the moment, when you eat. Taste the food, feel the texture, eat slow and don't eat in the car. I did not get the surgery, I did work on what they taught me.
Christmas 2010 was approaching, my family always had Thanksgiving food on Christmas. I found an article online that standing prime rib is a popular Christmas meal. Prime rib is my mothers favorite but neither of us had ever cooked it, just enjoyed it at restaurants. It's amazing how may recipes for prime rib are on the Internet and how passionate the writers of them are. Armed with 7 lbs of meat and my new found knowledge I headed to the family home to start a new Christmas tradition of Prime rib. It was beautiful, the smell of it cooking in the oven was mouth watering. Time to eat the anticipation was overwhelming, I cut us all a huge portion. First bite was perfect along with the second and third. Then I remembered my instructions from the seminars, slow down and feel the texture. Something weird happened, my stomach turned, I started to sweat. I was chewing on flesh, visions of cows started flashing in my brain. Excused myself from the table went to the restroom and it all came back up! GROSS!! Back to the table and all I could see was this flesh on my plate that was it I was done with food for the day.
So begins my journey in becoming a vegetarian My reasons are simple, I love animals and I need to loose weight.
